Artist: Ted Conrath

Theodore (Ted) Conrath was a native of Hebron, ND. He went to New York City in 1944 where he graduated with an MFA from New York University. He broke into the New York art scene in 1962 with a solo exhibition of paintings at the Key Gallery in Manhattan. From his large studio in Pelham, NY he went on to create contemporary works for the Elaine Benson Gallery, Hasting on Hudson Gallery, and Jain-Maranouchie Gallery in Soho.

Conrath retired in 1981 to devote his time to painting and sculpting. His wife, Francis said "There is no doubt the major force for landscape in his life came from the buttes, formations, and endless horizons of Western North Dakota. The unbelievable sunsets dropping suddenly behind the Badlands were his challenges. Fran always felt compelled to come to North Dakota every two years to help Ted keep in touch with his home state and friends. Ted passed away in 1995. He is greatly missed by all who knew him.

Ted traveled through Yellowstone Park several years ago after the devastating fire.

The following four paintings were created by Ted showing his impressions of the park in the aftermath of the blaze.

Artist: Jennifer Matthews

Jennifer is a wildlife and nature artist living in Mandan, ND with her husband and three children. Living in a town that is so close to wildlife and the countryside has proven to be a benefit feeding her realistic oil paintings. Her travels to the Badlands in both North and South Dakota have been an inspiration for many of her paintings. Jennifer's original oil paintings and fine art prints hang in businesses and private homes throughout the country. Her pieces have won numerous awards including the prestigious People's Choice at the Badland's Art Association annual show in 2004 and an Honorable Mention at the 2006 Bismarck Art and Galleries Association annual show.
